A leader has the ability to change things for the better, encourage others to be their best selves, and build the future. In a team, the leader holds the most significant responsibility. Every outcome of his decision, whether a mission is accomplished or fails, is the leader's responsibility. It's important to understand and accept the idea of accountability if you want to be a successful leader. Accountable leaders accept responsibility for their acts and decisions, and they are aware of the consequences of their decisions. Leaders accept responsibility for the results of their leadership, whether they are good or bad, and they are willing to own up to their errors and grow from them. As it indicates a sense of accountability and sincerity, this level of responsibility is essential in establishing trust with their followers.
In reading this book, I can reflect on myself because, as the company commander of Charlie Company, I also carry the challenge of triumph and the burden of loss of my company. Before the position was turned over to me by the previous ruling class, I was still doubtful and puzzled about whether I was ready enough to lead my company. Being a leader of my company is a big challenge for me because I know for myself that the success of the company relies on my decisions and actions, and being a leader, you must put yourself last so that your subordinates can be first.
As a leader, I always anchor my leadership to the 11 leadership principles, and one of them is to know your people and look out for their welfare. Knowing the names and birthdays of your people is not enough. You must understand what motivates people and what matters to them. Spend some time and effort understanding them and listening to them. Deep concern for your followers will increase their respect and trust in you as a leader. If you don't show your people that you care about them, telling them that you do has no meaning. Our subordinates believe that if you don't take care of them on a regular basis, you will also let them down during rough times.
I can compare the similarity of leadership to that of Jesus. A leader accepts the challenge of carrying the responsibility and the consequences of his position or role, just as Jesus carried the burden of responsibility. Jesus took on the full weight and paid the price of our sins because we are his subordinates and we can't pay our debt, which is why Jesus took on the responsibility for us. A leader's life can benefit from having faith since it can help provide direction, comfort, and purpose. In the face of difficulties, it may be a source of resiliency and strength. At times we think that we have had enough and are exhausted; we just need to spare time to talk to Jesus. As stated in the book of Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Jesus is willing to take away our pain and burdens in life in order for us to continue to walk toward our purpose in life.
